WASHINGTON, DC, USA, April 25, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — THE BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT IN FLOWER ARRANGEMENT IN DECADES – TODAY THE U.S. PATENT OFFICE GRANTED A RARE PATENT ON THE FIRST ECO-FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVE TO THE FLORAL FOAM IN 65 YEARS
The U.S. Patent Office today granted a patent for the first eco-friendly alternative to green floral foam in 65 years. The rare patent was awarded to the FloraGUPPY, an eco-friendly, reusable and recyclable device for flower arrangement and an alternative to floral foam that is an industry staple.
FloraGUPPY inventor James Wong of Vancouver, Canada says, “The Guppy” does just about everything moss can do and more and it doesn’t leave behind, what critics call, a trail. of plastic waste. It’s long in coming and can replace the moss that for years has been disposed of in landfills.
Florists have been using green moss for years, but over the past decade florists around the world have begun to abandon it as potentially harmful to the planet. And the Royal Horticultural Society – the world’s most influential flower organization – has banned it from the world’s most prestigious flower shows, including the Chelsea show which starts on May 24. The prestigious show has been patronized by Queen Elizabeth and the royal family for decades.
“FloraGUPPY is better for the planet than foam and it’s convenient and saves money and time,” says Wong.
The patent comes at a time when consumers are becoming very environmentally conscious. It has already caught on in the “Green Movement” flower which widely advertises the need to ditch moss and become more environmentally friendly. The FloraGUPPY has also been a hit at consumer and professional flower shows.
The FloraGUPPY is versatile, comes in two interlocking halves, can be molded and reshaped in hot water. It is shaped like a sphere and has 58 holes of varying sizes to accommodate fresh cut and specialty plants like orchids, silk and paper crafts. Florists and home enthusiasts say it’s a game-changer and has been described as the “Post-it-Note” for the floral industry.
